CMBA Spring League Schedule 2019

Fees for both the Recreational & Club Leagues are $1250.00 per team + $300.00 forfeit/damage deposit per team (refunded at the end of season to teams that don’t forfeit any games, don’t damage the facility, and have solid sportsmanship and conduct records with little to no verified complaints)

Recreational League Tournaments; 

Teams that register for Spring Tournament Weekends must enter and commit to all 3 tournaments listed below.

April 12th, 13th; 2019 Tournament format; 3 game guarantee

May 24th, 25th; 2019 Tournament format; 3 game guarantee

June 14th, 15th; 2019 Tournament format; 3 game guarantee (Medal Awards Weekend) 

 

Club League; U13,U15 Boys Monday Nights; U13,U15 Girls Tuesday Nights & U18 Boys and Girls Wednesday Nights.

Team Registration Cost, Cancellation, and Refund Policy

***Registration deadline for all teams is Friday March 22nd, 2019 at 4:00pm***   Registration Fee is $1,250 per team.  *** Plus a $300 game forfeit fee/sportsmanship conduct fee/damage deposit fee for all teams registered, which will be returned at end of season, if all needs are met to CMBA that team or teams is in good standing***. All Teams will provide rosters with birthdates and a copy of an Alberta Healthcare card, Passport, or document verifying player’s age.  Rosters will be a maximum of 12 players per team.  Rosters are due April 1st at 4:00pm.  $ 100.00 will be charged to teams for late rosters.

 

  • CMBA will refund the Spring League Team Registration fee if a team or team’s registration is cancelled by email to cmba@cmba.ab.ca on or before March 22nd, 2019. A 10% service charge will apply.  Refunds will be issued in the same medium as received. Refunds will be issued 14 days after payment has cleared the bank.

Team registration fees will not be refunded if a team or teams cancel their participation in the Spring League after March 22nd, 2019

Supplementary Information and Rulings

CMBA encourages sportsmanship among teams. Coaches are encouraged to play all their players for significant and meaningful minutes per game.

Verbal or physical abuse of officials by coaches, players or spectators will not be tolerated.  Offending individuals will be ejected from the facility and suspended from the league.

 

Club Divisions

All teams registering will be served on a first come first serve basis with a minimum of 4 teams and a maximum 8 teams per division in: U13 A&B, U15 A&B, U18 (High School) A&B (A division is intended for older players at the top of their age group and B division is intended for younger players i.e.; U12, U14, U16, but is not exclusive to younger players thus the classification U13 B, U15 B, U18 B)

U13 A/B and U15 A/B Boys - Monday Evening, League will conclude on Monday June 10th, 2019.

U13 A/B and U15 A/B Girls - Tuesday Evening, League will conclude on Tuesday June 11th, 2019.

U18 A/B Boys & Girls - Wednesday Evening, League will conclude on Wednesday June 12th, 2019.

            The regular season & playoff schedule when posted will be final. No playoff games will be rescheduled.

U13 & U15 Boys Playoffs will begin Monday, June 3rd and end June 10th, U13 & U15 Girls Playoffs will begin Tuesday, June 4th and will end June 11thth, U18 Playoffs will begin Wednesday, June 5th and end June 12thth.  

Rules of play will be FIBA with the following modifications:

U13 will play 4 - 9 minute stop time quarters with a 2-minute half time break.

  • U13 teams must play man-to-man defence only in full court and half court, they can full court press in man to man and can double team the ballhandler in full court and half court. (Follows Canada Basketball Learn to Train Stage (L2T) Chapter 7 page 37)

U15 and U18 will play 4 - 10 minute stop time quarters with a 2-minute half time break.

  • U15 and U18 will play full FIBA rules with no modifications.

Each team will have 2 timeouts in the first half and 3 timeouts in the second.

Overtime in the regular season of play and playoffs will start with a jump ball. The first team to score 4 points or the team leading at the end of a 3-minute stop time period is the victor, whichever comes first.  If the game remains tied at the end of 3 minutes, the second overtime period will begin immediately with a jump ball and the winner will be determined by the first team to score a point.  This includes any type of point scored including a single foul shot.

There will be no timeouts in OT

All teams must conform to the age categories designated;

U13 Divisions - Players must be born in 2006 or later

U15 Divisions- Players must be born in 2004 and 2005

U18(HS) Divisions- Players must be born in 2001 and 2003

In Club Divisions: No team will press with a lead of more than 30 points.

 

 

Friday/Saturday Community/Recreational Division Tournaments 

  • All teams must conform to the age categories designated;
  • U11 Divisions- Players must be born in 2008 or later
  • U13 Divisions - Players must be born in 2006 or Later

U15 Divisions- Players must be born in 2004 and 2005

U18(HS) Divisions- Players must be born in 2001 and 2003

Regular Season CMBA Rules will be in effect:

U11 Division will play 4 on 4 (As per Canada Basketball’s developmental model) The game will consist of 2-23 minute periods; 22 minutes running time, 1 minute stop time.

U13 will play 4 - 9 minute stop time quarters with a 2-minute half time break.

U15 and U18 will play 4 - 10 minute stop time quarters with a 2-minute half time break.

Each team will have 2 timeouts in the first half and 3 timeouts in the second.

U15 teams may play full court zone defence at any time until the ball crosses the half court line and then must revert to man to man defence; double teaming of the ballhandler is allowed in the full court and half court.

U18 teams will play full FIBA rules

In Community/Recreational Divisions No team will press with a lead of more than 20 points.

40-point mercy rule is in effect in the CMBA Community Divisions

Community Divisions will take place on Saturdays

The regular season & playoff schedule when posted will be final. No playoff games will be rescheduled. Playoffs will begin Friday, June 14th and end Saturday, June 15th.  

General Policies

  • Any team found playing ineligible players will be disqualified from the league and will forfeit team registration fees.
  • Players who have not played community basketball must provide proof of age
  • Teams are required to provide their own practice time
  • Teams are required to provide their own jerseys and must provide pennies if jerseys are not reversible.
  • Players can only be registered on one team per spring. And must play a minimum of 2 league games to qualify for playoffs.
  • Teams can only register in one of our leagues, cannot play in both club and community divisions at same time.
  • All U18 players to be eligible for Spring League 2019 must be in registered and attending High School for Spring 2019.
