Team Placement Pre-Season:

[Go to Seeding Round Rules]

For the pre-season round, zones/associations are asked to rank teams based on their perceived skill level in to divisions 1-5.

Games will be scheduled to help determine final placement of teams for the regular season.

Team Placement Regular Season:

At the completion of the pre-season, the results of those games, along with any additional recommendations from the zones/associations, will be used to finalize division placement.

Each year CMBA will determine the regular season format of each gender/age group. In general, the following will be used when possible:Divisions will be named: Division 1,2, 3 etc.

Divisions should have a Minimum of 6 teams, maximum of 12 with the ideal being 10.

6.2 Schedule

All Game schedules will be posted on the CMBA website.

Any changes to the game schedules during the season will be noted on the website, and the teams affected by the change will be contacted directly by CMBA.

There will be NO rescheduled games, at the request of teams or coaches for any reason. Refer to Section 5: Participation - rule 5.3.1

6.3 Regular Season Standings / Tie Breaking Procedure

Should two or more teams have the same win/loss record at the end of the regular season the following steps will be followed to determine team ranking for playoffs:

  • Head to head games results and the team with the best record advances.
  • The ratio of points for divided by points against using games only between teams involved. Our association uses a point spread of a maximum of 20 points to discourage teams from running up the score.
  • If still not settled, then the points for / against ratio involving all teams in the division. A point spread of a maximum of 20 points applies.
  • If still not settled, then the most points scored by a team during regular season games against all teams.
  • If still not settled, then the lowest points against by a team during the regular season play against all
  • If still not settled a coin toss will be used.
  • The above sets out the way’s ties are broken in CMBA play. The computer program CMBA uses to facilitate its program is not a deciding factor if it does not comply to the above.

6.4 Playoffs

All teams qualify to play in their division’s city play-offs.

During post season play (playoffs) no guest players will be allowed. Only players listed on that teams’ current roster may play.

Playoff Structure:
U-11, U-13, and U-15 age groups:

  • At the end of the regular season once final standings are determined, all divisions will be split in half. The top half will be the A playoff and the bottom half will be the B playoff.
  • The number of teams in each playoff will be exactly half of the number of teams from the regular season division.
  • Should there be fewer than 8 teams in a division, the division will not be split for playoffs.
  • Each of the Divisional A and B groups will have a Gold, Silver, and Bronze winner.

U-18 age groups:

  • Should there be fewer than 8 teams in a division, the division will not be split for playoffs.
  • 8 or more teams and the format will follow the same as the other age groups noted above.
