CMBA Privacy Policy

CMBA is committed to protecting your privacy and supports a general policy of openness about how we collect, use and disclose your personal information.

The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to inform you about CMBA’s practices relating to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information arising from your registration in any and all CMBA activities or that may otherwise be collected by us.

This Privacy Policy also explains how you can contact us if you have a question about, want to make a change to or delete any personal information that CMBA may be holding about you. We strongly recommend that you take the time to read this Privacy Policy and retain it for future reference.

Personal Information

For the purpose of this Privacy Policy, “personal information” means information about an identifiable individual.

What Personal Information We Collect

The personal information collected may include at least some of the following:

  • Contact information (such as name, address, e-mail address, and telephone number);
  • Proof of identity (such as a signature or driver’s license number);
  • Proof of age (such as a birth certificate);
  • Height of individual;
  • Game statistics, playing history, positions, disciplinary record, and awards histories;
  • Emergency contact information;
  • Pictures, video, likenesses; and
  • Financial and billing information and your account history with CMBA.

How We Use Your Personal Information

We use your personal information to:

  • Administer and manage our basketball programs including, but not limited to, scheduling games, managing teams, to organizing and running events, and to contacting participants for these purposes;
  • To record team and association activities;
  • Manage, develop and evaluate our organization, programs, events and operations; and
  • Meet legal and regulatory requirements.

When We Disclose Your Personal Information

We do not sell, license, trade or rent your personal information to or with others.

All CMBA members are automatically also members of Basketball Alberta, the governing body for the sport of basketball in Alberta. We will disclose player, coach, and team management names and contact information to Alberta Basketball Association for purposes of promoting and administering Basketball Alberta programs including, but not limited to, clinics, camps, development programs, Provincial teams, and tournaments such as the Youth Provincials.

CMBA may disclose likenesses, photographs, video, film or other media of players, coaches or team mangers in a group, state of play, coaching or other association's activities in our newsletter, on our website, on our social media or to others to promote and advertise the CMBA. We will use group photos and video, film or other media to record team and group activities, states of play and coaching and other association activities for these purposes. We will ask for your consent before disclosing photographs, film, video or other media of you singly or not with others for these purposes.

CMBA may share personal information with third parties engaged to assist us in carrying out one or more of the purposes described above. These service providers are prohibited from using your personal information for any purpose other than to provide this assistance and are required to protect personal information collected by them on behalf of CMBA or disclosed to them by CMBA and to comply with the general privacy principles described in this Privacy Policy.

CMBA reserves the right to disclose personal information to a third party if a law, regulation, search warrant, subpoena or court order legally requires or authorizes us to do so. CMBA also reserves the right to disclose and/or transfer personal information to a third party in the event of a proposed or actual purchase, sale (including a liquidation, realization, foreclosure or repossession), lease, merger, amalgamation or any other type of acquisition, disposal, transfer, conveyance or financing of all or any portion of CMBA or of any of the business or assets or shares of CMBA or a division thereof in order for you to continue to receive the same products and services from the third party.

Knowledge and Consent

CMBA collects personal information about you only when you voluntarily provide it.  Typically, we will seek consent for the use or disclosure of your personal information at the time of collection. In certain circumstances, consent may be sought after the information has been collected but before use (for example, when we want to use information for a purpose not previously identified), or if you have indicated that you would like to consider whether to consent to the disclosure of your photograph at the time of the proposed disclosure.

The form of consent that we seek, including whether it is express or implied, will largely depend on the sensitivity of the personal information and the reasonable expectations of the individual in the circumstances.

You may withdraw consent at any time subject to reasonable notice. If you wish to withdraw your consent at any time, please contact us at cmba@cmba.ab.ca. We will inform you of the implications of withdrawing consent.

We will not, as a condition of your registration and participation in the League, require you to consent to the collection, use or disclosure of information beyond that reasonably required to fulfill the explicitly specified and legitimate purposes for which the information is being provided.

How We Protect Your Personal Information

CMBA makes reasonable efforts to ensure that personal information collected from you is protected against loss, theft and unauthorized access.  This protection applies in relation to information stored in both electronic and hard copy form.  Access to your personal information is restricted to selected members, employees or representatives.

Retention and Storage of Your Personal Information

CMBA retains your personal information for the duration of you registration or membership, and in accordance with or to comply with applicable limitation periods or laws, and your consent to such purposes(s) remains valid after termination of our relationship with you.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

CMBA reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at anytime without notice to reflect changes in legal or regulatory obligations or changes in the manner in which we deal with personal information.  The Privacy Policy posted at any time or from time to time via CMBA’s website shall be deemed to be the Privacy Policy then in effect.  We will notify you about changes to our Privacy Policy by placing a “New” icon next to the link to the Privacy Policy on the CMBA website.  We encourage you to check the website from time to time for such changes to the Privacy Policy.

Correcting or Updating Your Information
