CMBA Spring League

IMPORTANT UPDATE: SPRING LEAGUE HAS FILLED / REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED 

CMBA Spring League 2022

CMBA has been working diligently to create a Spring League that encompasses the competitive needs of the Calgary youth basketball community. 

With a limited number of gyms available, CMBA has done yeoman's work to book as many gyms as possible for the 2022 Spring League.

There will be two distinct categories:

  • ACC Division (Top club teams)
  • REC Division (lower level club teams & community teams)

ACC Division (Top Club Teams)

Divisions:

  • A Division and B Division
  • 8 teams per Division
  • U11 Boys & Girls
  • U13 Boys & Girls A & B
  • U15 Boys & Girls A & B

Games:

  • Games will be weekdays: Monday to Thursday
  • Each Division will play on the same night each week—with the odd game-night change
  • 11 total games: 1 exhibition game, 7 league games, 3 playoff games
  • Playoffs will take place on a weekend in June—June 10-11 for the ACC A Divisions (Oregon Draw)
  • Playoffs for U11 and the ACC B Divisions will consist of extra weekday games throughout the season to ensure all teams receive 1 exhibition game, 7 games, 3 playoff games

Cost:

  • Cost is $1,700.00 per team + a $300 performance deposit = $2,000 per team
  • the $300 performance deposit will be fully refunded to each team that fulfills their full game commitment—refunds will be within 30 days following the conclusion of the league

Rec Division (Lower Level Club Teams and Community Teams)

Divisions:

  • B Division and C Division
  • Division size to be determined
  • U11 Boys & Girls
  • U13 Boys & Girls B & C
  • U15 Boys & Girls B & C
  • U18 Boys & Girls B & C

Games:

  • Games will be weekends—4 weekends
  • 11 total games: 2 exhibition games, 3 tournaments with 3 games per tournament

Cost:

  • Cost is $1,700.00 per team + a $300 performance deposit = $2,000 per team
  • the $300 performance deposit will be fully refunded to each team that fulfills their full performance commitment (see below)—refunds will be within 30 days following the conclusion of the league

Dates:

  • April 29-30 (2 exhibition games)
  • May 13-14
  • May 27-28
  • June 17-18

U11 Rule Modifications (ACC & REC)

ACC U11 Boys Club Division:

  • Games will be played with a five (5) vs. five (5) format
  • Ball Size: size 6
  • Hoop Height: 10ft (regulation height)
  • Foul Line: regulation free throw line
  • Games shall consist of nine (9) minute stop-time quarters, with one (1) minute between quarters
  • There shall be a five (5) minute half time break
  • NO full court defense allowed
  • FIBA Rules with minimal modifications

ACC U11 Girls Club Division:  

  • Games will be played with a four (4) vs. four (4) format
  • Ball Size: size 5
  • Hoop Height: 8ft 6in to 8ft 9in-depending on player ability
  • Foul Line: 15ft from baseline, or 3ft closer than marked foul line
  • Games shall consist of two (2) halves of twenty-three (23) minutes
  • Twenty-two (22) minutes running time & (1) minute stop-time at the end of each half
  • There shall be a two (2) minute half time break
  • NO full court defense allowed
  • FIBA Rules with modifications

REC U11 Girls and Boys Divisions:   

  • Games will be played with a four (4) vs. four (4) format
  • Ball Size: 5 both boys and girls
  • Hoop Height: 8ft 6in to 8ft 9in-depending on player ability
  • Foul Line: 15ft from baseline, or 3ft closer than marked foul line
  • Games shall consist of two (2) halves of twenty-three (23) minutes
  • Twenty-two (22) minutes running time & (1) minute stop-time at the end of each half
  • There shall be a two (2) minute half time break
  • NO full court defense allowed
  • FIBA Rules with modifications

CMBA has booked enough gyms to accommodate the following:

ACC    

  • 80 total teams
  • 14 Divisions
  • U11 Boys & Girls
  • U13 Boys & Girls A & B
  • U15 Boys & Girls A & B
  • If there are less than 8 teams in a Division, CMBA may add additional teams in another Division

REC   

  • 120 total teams
  • 8 Divisions
    • U11 Boys & Girls B & C
    • U13 Boys & Girls B & C
    • U15 Boys & Girls B & C
    • U18 Boys & Girls B & C
  • Currently there is not a limit as to how many teams can register in a REC Division
    • As registrations come in, a limit may have to be set in a Division due to limited gym availability

To Register:  IMPORTANT UPDATE: SPRING LEAGUE HAS FILLED / REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED 

  • Registrations will be First Come, First Served
    • The ACC Division will likely fill fast
  • For clubs or teams that want to enter the CMBA Spring League (ACC or REC) but have not yet confirmed the number of teams interested, you can email cmba@cmba.ab.ca  in advance of registering online with your expected team(s): cmba@cmba.ab.ca 

 

**Teams registering for the ACC & REC Leagues MUST commit to all tournaments and game nights listed above**

Team Deposit: $300—game forfeit fee/sportsmanship conduct fee/damage deposit fee for all teams—which will be refunded within 30 days of the end of the season if all performance needs are met—i.e. team is considered in good standing)

Player Registrations: All players MUST be registered by April 1, 4:00pm (Online player registration will be in-lieu of team rosters)

Refunds: Team registration fees will not be refunded if a team or teams cancel their participation in the Spring League after March 28th, 2022 at 4:00 pm. A 10% service charge will be applied to teams withdrawing before March 28th, 2022 at 4:00 pm.

If you have chosen check payment, checks MUST be received by CMBA by March 28th, 2022 @ 4:00pm.
