U18 HS Boys (Fall): Jamie Traxel Memorial Trophy

Established 1995 - In Recognition of Jamie Traxel, who passed away on Jan 12, 1995 at the age of 18

Jamie started playing basketball with the Calgary Minor Basketball Association as a tyke with the help of his father who was one of the founders of the program. He continued to play every year right through to his second year of Juvenile as well as on numerous school and travelling teams.

Jamie exemplified excellence in basketball skills, attitude, and sportsmanship. He was always a team leader who gave everything for the team. We will always remember his great spirit.

Karla Karch Trophy

U18 HS Girls (Fall): Karla Karch Trophy

Established 2016 - In Recognition of Karla Karch: A Leader in both the Calgary Community and the Calgary Sporting Community.

Karla began playing basketball at the age of five in the Community Tykes Program of Maple Ridge and Willow Park. Karla's basketball experiences and accomplishments over her career are truly amazing, making her a great role model for young female athletes. Karla played in over 150 international competitions for Canada, then went on to play professionally in Germany and Hungary. Currently Karla is the Athletic Director of Mount Royal University (MRU) Cougar Athletics. To read more on Karla's amazing career, download her bio here.

Established 2017 - In Recognition Stephen & Linda Hornberger who were monumental in the Creation of Calgary Minor Basketball Association

Wendy Parker Trophy

U15 Girls: Wendy Trophy

Established 2017 - In Recognition of Wendy Parker, CMBA President from 2007 to 2015.

Wendy became the president of Calgary Minor Basketball in 2007. CMBA at that time, had just over 3,000 players and 250 teams. Through Wendy's guidance, and with the help of many CMBA Volunteer Boards, CMBA grew to 4,000 players and over 300 teams at the end of her Presidency in 2015. Wendy Parker's seven years is the longest term of service by any CMBA President.

Wendy also volunteers each year with All-Sport One Day to coach the basketball sessions. Youth from across the city try out new sports that interest them. Wendy has been involved in coaching many teams in the CMBA, School System, and Club System in Alberta.

Wendy is a true volunteer and CMBA honours her for her past service and continued service to CMBA and sport in Calgary.

Gord Jackson Trophy

U13 Girls - Gord Jackson Trophy

Established 2017 - In Recognition of Gord Jackson, Operations Manager from 1989 to 2013.

Gord Jackson was hired by Calgary Minor Basketball in 1989 to be the Operations Manager of CMBA, and worked and served CMBA for 24 24 years. Gord was grateful to be a part of such a diverse organization of people. Committed to the growth of basketball in Calgary, Gord began with less than 2,000 players and 200 teams in the league in 1995. Through Gord's hard work with the volunteer CMBA Board, CMBA grew to over 3,500 players and 300 teams when Gord retired in 2013 at the age of 65.

Jamie exemplified excellence in basketball skills, attitude, and sportsmanship. He was always a team leader who gave everything for the team. We will always remember his great spirit.

Allen Traxel Trophy

Established 2017 - In Recognition of Allen Traxel, one of the founding members of Calgary Minor Basketball.

Ray Hampton Memorial Trophy

U11 Girls: Ray Hampton Memorial Trophy

Established 2017 - In Recognition of Ray Hampton, founder of Edmonton Youth Basketball and Calgary Minor Basketball

Ray Hampton was the founder and builder of Edmonton Youth Basketball and the Calgary Minor Basketball Association. Ray served as Chairman of the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues Basketball Association in the 1960s and 1970s. Even when his own children were no longer involved in the program, he continued to coach and could be found working and coaching a Mini Girls team somewhere in the EYBA Program. He was keenly interested in working with the beginning levels of the basketball program to ensure that it continued to develop.

In time, his wife too a position in Calgary, and Ray moved to Calgary and became promptly involved with the basketball program in Calgary, where he served as the first president for many years. Ray, along ith Allen Traxel, helped to found the Calgary Minor Basketball we know today.

His influence in basketball thus was felt in the two primary communities of Albera. Ray was later honoured by Alberta Basketball as a builder of the basketball programming in Alberta. Ray's influence in basketball went beyond just the team he was coaching and extended into EYBA & CMBA.
