Questions with Western Wyoming player Noah Harris:
Q: Who is your favourite basketball player?
A: I have a few favourite basketball players but have to say that my all-time favourite is Scottie Pippen. I would say this is because I love watching his defensive game. Also, his role on the Bulls with Jordan was an extremely difficult role to play, I admire his ability to play such a role that required him to step up immediately when teams would double team Jordan.
Q: Which basketball team do you root for?
A: I do have a soft spot for the Raptors because they’re Canadian but, the team I am currently rooting for has gotta be the Clippers because Kawhi Leonard is playing for them and he is my favourite basketball player that is playing right now.
Q: Who has the best basketball uniforms of any college or pro team you like?
A: I think Baylor University’s Jerseys are pretty fresh, I feel like it is hard to pull off their colours but the women’s team kills it.
Q: What is your favourite basketball movie?
A: It has gotta be Love & Basketball. I really liked how the main female character was able to accomplish what she wanted and didn’t settle, rather than a traditional male accomplishing his goals.
Q: What is your favourite candy?
A: I love nibs.
Q: What is your favourite ice cream?
A: mint choc chip
Q: Do you have a hobby?
A: I like to snowboard and paint anything. I love being outside so I enjoy snowboarding, it is hard and I am not very good, which makes it more fun. I like painting because it is really relaxing.
Q: Do you have a favourite pregame meal before you play a basketball game?
A: Pasta, I almost always eat pasta, I gotta get them carbs before a game.
Q: What is your favourite basketball play?
A: Shot blocks, blocks off the backboard and rejecting dunks. I think nothing is more exciting than a monster block, I love them.
Q: What do you love most about the game of basketball?
A: It consistently challenges you.
Q: Do you have a favourite memory from when you played in the CMBA?
A: I remember my team beat Calwest in the finals for gold one year. We were the underdog team so it was a really exciting and intense game. It was my first taste of playoff basketball and winning when it counts, I loved that feeling.
Q: What is the best piece of advice you received from a coach?
A: The only person’s actions you can control is your own
Q: What is one piece of advice you would give to younger players?
A: You are stronger than you think
Q: What basketball skill is your greatest strength?
A: I would say that defense is my greatest strength.
Q: What was your biggest failure or adversity you have faced in the game, and how did you over come it?
A: My greatest adversity that I have faced in the game so far is injury. I blew out my knee and had to get surgery, the rehab process was a year’s time. I overcame this adversity in baby steps, day by day.
Q: Are you a vocal leader on the court or do you lead by example? Or both?
A: I am definitely a lead by example player, I am quite soft-spoken and I am not super vocal with my team. I rarely yell instructions and when I do communicate, I talk to teammates one-on-one.
Q: How do you find positive ways to communicate with your teammates? To build team culture.
A: I’ve found it depends on the team you are on and the personalities your team holds. I think speaking directly with a logical tone rather than an emotional tone promotes good communication. As well, unless the issue needs to be addressed in public, I find private communication is beneficial.
Q: What is something interesting about you that no one really knows?
A: I have stretchy ligaments
Q: What is your favourite class or subject in University?
A: My favourite class was philosophy, I found it super interesting and I love that there is not really a “truth”, there is whether things are “right” or “wrong” is of personal opinion.
Q: What are your plans after you graduate?
A: Hopefully, I would be done with my education degree by that time and I would start my job as a high school teacher.
Q: How are you training during the Covid-19 pandemic? To prepare for the next season.
A: The NJCAA did not cancel their season so we have been playing this season and are currently in our second round of conference play.
