CMBA Spring League 2018 Supplementary Information and Rulings

CMBA encourages sportsmanship among teams. Coaches are encouraged to play all their players for significant and meaningful minutes per game.

Verbal or physical abuse of officials by coaches, players or spectators will not be tolerated. Offending individuals will be ejected from the facility and suspended from the league.

Club Divisions

  • All teams registering will be served on a first come first serve basis with a maximum of 6 teams per division in: U13 A&B, U15 A&B, U17 A&B (A division is intended for older players at the top of their age group and B division is intended for younger players i.e. ; U12, U14, U16, but is not exclusive to younger players thus the classification U13 B, U15 B, U17 B)
  • U13 A/B and U15 A/B Boys - Monday Evening , League will begin April 9th & conclude on Monday June 11th, 2018
  • U13 A/B and U15 A/B Girls - Tuesday Evening , League will begin April 10th & conclude on Tuesday June 12th, 2018
  • U17 A/B Boys and Girls - Monday Evening, League will being April 9th & conclude on Mon day June 11th, 2018

Playoffs

The regular season & playoff schedule when posted will be final. No playoff games will be rescheduled.

  • U13 & U15 Boys Playoffs will begin Monday, June 4th and end June 11th;
  • U13 & U15 Girls Playoffs will begin Tuesday, June 5th and will end June 12th;
  • U17 Playoffs will begin Monday , June 4th and end June 11th;

Rules

Rules of play will be FIBA with the following modifications:

  • No team in the Club Division will continue to press with a lead of 30 points
  • Each team will have 2 timeouts in the first half and 3 timeouts in the second
  • Overtime in the regular season of play and playoffs will start with a jump ball. T he first team to score 4 points or the team leading at the end of a 3 minute stop time period is the victor, whichever comes first. If the game remains tied at the end of 3 minutes, the second overtime period will begin immediately with a jump ball and the winner will be determined by the firs t team to score a point. This includes any type of point scored including a single foul shot.
  • There will be no timeouts in OT
  • U13 (Bantam)
    • will play 4 - 9 minute stop time quarters with a 2 - minute half time break
    • can only play full court man to man defense with the ability to double team the ball. No zone defense permitted. (As per Canada Basketball’s developmental model)
  • U15 (Midget) and U17 (Juveniles)
    • will play 4 - 10 minute stop time quarters with a 2 - minute half time break
    • may play full court zone defense at any time

Age Categories

All teams must conform to the age categories designated;

  • U13 Divisions - Players must be born in 2005 or later
  • U15 Divisions - Players must be born in 2003 and 2004
  • U17 Divisions - Players must be born in 2001 and 2002

General Policies

  • Any team found playing ineligible players will be disqualified from the league and will forfeit team registration fees.
  • Players who have not played CMBA Fall 2017 - Winter 2018 basketball must provide proof of age and proof of insurance
  • Coaches who have not coached CMBA Fall 2017 - Winter 2018 basketball must provide proof of age and proof of insurance

Friday, Saturday Recreational Tournament Divisions

All teams registering will be served on a first come first serve basis with a maximum of 8 teams per division in: U13 A&B, U15 A&B, U17 A&B (A division is intended for older players at the top of their age group and B division is intended for younger players i.e. ; U12, U14, U16, but is not exclusive to younger players thus the classification U13 B, U15 B, U17 B )

Recreational Tournaments Dates: Teams registering for the tournament play must commit to all three tournaments listed below. Total cost for all three tournaments is $1200 dollars plus $300 forfeit /damage deposit.

  • April 20th , 21st 3 game guarantee
  • May 25th , 26th 3 game guarantee
  • June 15th , 16th 3 game guarantee. Championship Weekend & Awards for top finishers

Recreational Playoff Championship weekend will begin Friday, June 15th and end Saturday, June 16th

Age Categories

All teams must conform to the age categories designated;

  • U11(Mini) Divisions - Players must be born in 2007 or later
  • U13 (Bantam) Divisions - Players must be born in 2005 or Later
  • U15 (Midget) Divisions - Players must be born in 2003 and 2005
  • U17 (Juvenile) Divisions - Players must be born in 2001 and 2002

Rules

Regular Season CMBA Rules will be in effect with following modifications :

  • No team in the Recreational Division Tournaments will press with a lead of 20 points
  • U11(Mini):
    • will play 4 on 4 (As per Canada Basketball’s developmental model)
    • the game will consist of two 23 minute halves; 22 minutes running time, 1 minute stop time. 2 minute half time break
  • U13 (Bantam):
    • will play 4 - 9 minute stop time quarters with a 2 - minute half time break
    • can only play full court man to man defense with the ability to double team the ball . No zone defense allowed. (As per Canada Basketball’s developmental model)
  • U15 (Midget) and U17 (Juveniles):
    • will play 4 - 10 minute stop time quarters with a 2 - minute half time break
    • may play full court zone defense at any time

  • 40-point game mercy rule is in effect in the CMBA Recreational Division Tournaments

  • Teams are required to provide their own practice time
  • Teams are required to provide their own jerseys and must provide pinnies if jerseys are not reversible
  • Players can only be registered on one team per spring. And must play a minimum of 2 league games to qualify for playoffs
